Starbucks Recycled Coffee Bag Wallet ...

Today I slept in, then took a long walk and got a great cup of Costa Rican coffee at Grant's Market in Golden Hill. Spent time with Jon and the girls. And I made something new from something old ... it was a very good day!

Invisible Thread ...

Last week marked the end of Volume 4 of Heroes ... I was happy with the ending and am looking forward to Volume 5 "Redemption". I especially love the last voiceover by Mohinder. I've found the transcript and wanted to share it with you to ponder.

We are all connected, joined together by an invisible thread, infinite in its potential and fragile in its design. Yet while connected, we are also merely individuals, empty vessels to be filled with infinite possibilities, an assortment of thoughts, beliefs, a collection of disjointed memories and experiences. Can I be me without these? Can you be you? And if this invisible threat that holds us together were to sever, to cease—what then? What will become of billions of lone, disconnected souls? Therein lies the great quest of our lives: To find, to connect, to hold on. For when our hearts are pure and our thoughts in line, we are all truly one, capable of repairing our fragile world and creating a universe of infinite possibilities.

Blessed are the poor ...

I was thinking today about the U.S. economic meltdown and how most people are coping. I wondered ... What does God see? What does He think about all our complaining about the loss of equity in our homes, the loss of earnings on our 401K & profit sharing plans, salary pay cuts and even cutting back on what we spending. Are you wondering???

I think that even now, in the midst of "the crisis", that God is calling us to go out to those in even greater need and to love them with the love of Jesus, who ate with tax collectors, befriended prostitutes, embraced the leper and cared passionately for the poor and marginalized.

So I wonder ... Do we still know who are we?

Ask the poor, they will tell you who the Christians are. - Gandhi

Also, I came across this interesting, in your face video about the excess of our mainstream American society. I mostly like the artistry and music in it, but still consider it somewhat thought provoking.

Who's Gonna Build The Wall? ...

I recently found this on a blog somewhere, I wish I could remember which one;

As the border wall cuts the land, it cuts the communities of the border and tries to create differences among them. This wall, imposed upon us by those who do not live here, is said to be a form of “security” but there can be no security when division and hate are created.

Since I now live in San Diego, this is a pretty hot topic so I hear both sides of the issue regularly.

But, I was especially reminded today of the injustice of this line we have drawn between the U.S. and Mexico, when Natalie, my daughter, told me how unfair she thinks it is that her friend Karla who lives in Tijuana can never, ever visit her. Well, I think Natalie has every right to be sad about that, and I wish more people understood this issue beyond what what our media portrays.

So with that little exchange on my mind, I wanted to share this video from a few years back, but it's oh so relevant for today. I like that it's tongue in cheek and it's even a catchy tune. Enjoy!

Here's a couple of shots of the tea wallets I've been dreaming up. They are $15 bucks each and come with 4 bags of tea for emergencies. BTW, in case you haven't you heard, tea is the new coffee =)
